I Know What It Means, To Miss New Orleans...

Just got back from venturing down south.  While down in Dixie, we spent the weekend in New Orleans.

It has been several years since I have visited the Big Easy, but I think it has made great strides since 2005's Katrina, into reclaiming their former glory as one of the best cities in America.

Oh what a city!

There is still some of the most beautiful architecture, amazing food and music, and some of the friendliest people in the land.

I picked up this beauty, a softshell crab
at the legendary Acme Oyster House .

In addition to all the New Orleans' classics, there are some new gems that are sure to join the ranks.  We stopped in on a whim at Somethin' Else Cafe.  Too much good to say about the food, including their Rice Krispie Treat that was served in a huge bowl like it was just finished on the stove! Malorie our server, was incredible; warm, genuine, relaxed though obviously busy, and made us sad to leave.  Her brother, Blaine is one of the owners.  On our next trip to New Orleans, we will be sure to pay his new Charcoal's Gourmet Burger Bar a visit.

In this wonderful old city there is an ongoing festival vibe that cannot be denied, no matter what neighborhood; no matter if it's morning, noon, night, or those wee small hours of the morning.

As Satchmo used to warn in the song, the feeling of missing New Orleans grows stronger, the longer I stay away.  Here's hopin' to a speedy return.

And as they say in N'awlins: "Laissez les bon temps rouler!"
